If you live, like most of us, in a region where chlorine is used to clean the water it is recommended to filter your drinking and shower water. You can read more about chlorine in drinking/ shower water in the section: Water quality. If you live in an old building or don't know how old the water pipes are, it is also a good idea to filter the water as copper and lead pipe systems sometimes still are in use in old buildings, which release heavy metals into the water.
For heated chlorinated shower water a shower filter always forms a safe barrier. But also for wellness reasons with sensitive skin or stressed hair, a shower filter improves the feeling of well-being during and after showering.
Can filters are primarily aimed at improving the taste, smell and appearance of tap water. Within certain limits, an ion exchanger reduces lime, while activated carbon reduces flavours and odours. But can filters cannot filter pollutants and germs from drinking water.
Our filters are fundamentally different from table-top or can filters. The sintered coconut activated carbon used for our filter solutions has a very high adsorption capacity. The surface structure of four grams of activated carbon roughly corresponds to the surface of a football field and thus has a large absorption area to bind pollutants out of the water, whereby lead, copper, drug residues, microplastics, hormone-like substances as well as chlorine and fluorides are removed or reduced.
There are several reasons why we do not offer whole house filter options. The water used for drinking water needs to be filtered the best possible way which can only be done by either a carbon block filter (as we use) or a reverse osmosis system. The reverse osmosis system does however filter out all important natural minerals in the water, takes up much more space and uses a lot more water, which is bad for the environment. For the shower water it is important that the water pressure is very high while still filtering out the dangerous chlorine etc, and adding healthy minerals to soften the skin and hair, but because of the high pressure needed you need a different filter type that lets more water through. If you would use a similar filter for drinking water the filtration of the drinking water would simply not be as good as we want it to be. So a whole house filter will always be a compromise where neither your drinking water nor you shower water will be as good as it can be.
This depends on your source water. It is however important to change the cartridge after 6 months/ 10.000 liters at the latest due to the threat of contamination. If however your source water is very dirty or there is a lot of residue from old pipes etc. in the water, it can be necessary to change the cartridge earlier.
Yes, each filter cartridge and its respective filter media have a certain influence on the water pressure or the flow rate. However, all shower filters can handle more than 10 liters/ minute and tap water filters up to 9 liters/ minute. It will of course also depend on your general water pressure.
One can experience in certain areas/ buildings that the water pressure falls with the Eco Active cartridge after 2-3 month use. This is due to a higher amount or residue and particles in the water or/ and in your local pipes, and in those cases you should take out the cartridge and clean it in a mix of clean water and lemon. Leave it in the water for 60 min before installing it again. Alternative solution is to switch to the Eco Active S cartridge which in some cases can be a better choice in old buildings with old pipes (only for the Eco Active under sink model). The cartridges will however still have to be replaces after maximum 6 month due to the threat of contamination and we will send you a reminder after 6 month.
Your Filter will not lose effectiveness if you do not use it being away
The filter housing made of anodized and food grade alloy has the dimensions of a beverage can, is 120 mm high and has a diameter of 67 mm. The empty weight is approx. 300 grams
Yes, all drinking water and shower filter cartridges are compatible. A drinking water filter can also become a shower filter and vice versa.
Used cartridges can easily be disposed of as household waste. The Eco cartridge can theoretically also be composted, since the bio plastic cartridge and its contents rot completely.
